The light comes back (but first, we rest)

After the Darkness

If I had to choose one word for 2025, it might be relentless.

It has been a year that asked for everything we had, and then turned around to ask even more. I know I'm not the only one feeling bone-deep weariness. In our sector, in our communities, in our own families, we have navigated volatility, uncertainty, and constant change.

But in this season, as the Solstice approaches, we get a good reminder: the light always comes back.

It doesn't return all at once. It is a quiet, barely visible shift. Our own clarity works the same way. We don't find our way forward by rushing into the New Year with a megaphone and a master plan. We find it by taking a queue from nature and allowing ourselves to rest. We let the darkness do its work. Resting long enough allows us to tune into our own voices again.

Alignment Over Action

Before we turn the calendar page, I'm inviting you to do something quietly radical: do not set a signle goal for 2026 yet.

No resolutions. No plans. Instead, ask yourself if the ladder you're climbing is still leaning against the right wall.

The "hustle" and the scarcity mindset of this year has told us to keep building, faster and bigger. But if we want a different world, we have to build on a different truth: Strategies mean nothing if you don't know your 'why.'

Take these darkest weeks as your chance to check your compass. Not your to-do list or your progress against targets—your values. The things that you can no longer compromise on, no matter what the market does next year.

If you're feeling unmoored, I created a simple self-assessment to help you find your footing. It's a metaphorical mirror. Use it to remind yourself who you are before the noise of January begins.

Finding Your 'Why'

Your 'why' is the intersection of your values and motivations and the subject of epidode two of our new podcast: Bosscraft: Building the Work You Want.

Gathering Wood

While the garden sleeps, I am tending to the structures that will support us when the season turns.

In January, we will focus on getting Rooted & Ready. That means going back to basics—sustainable rates, clear boundaries, and business models that support your life instead of draining it.

We will be opening doors for:

  • Winter On-Ramp Cohort (Starting Jan 20th) – For those ready to dig sound footings under a consulting practice.
  • Rapid Reset Coaching – A 3-week container to help you regain control and sanity.

But that is for later. For now, there is nothing you need to buy, build, or solve.

There is only the quiet. The warmth of your own resilience. And the promise that the light is on its way.

Rest well, y'all.

Whitney
